DIALOG KRISTOLOGI DAN PNEUMATOLOGI DALAM TEOLOGI ST. MAXIMUS SANG PENGAKU IMAN: GEREJA SEBAGAI RUANG THEOSIS DAN TRANSFORMASI SPIRITUAL

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dialogue between Christology and Pneumatology in the theology of St. Maximus the Confessor and to explain how the Holy Spirit actualizes Christ‘s saving work within the life of the Church and the faithful. The study also demonstrates that the Church is not merely a religious institution but a space for spiritual transformation and divinization (theosis) through the work of the Holy Spirit in liturgy, sacraments, and the life of faith. The methodology employed is a literature review, utilizing books, scholarly journals, and academic articles related to the thought of St. Maximus. Data were analyzed using a descriptive-theological approach, highlighting themes such as the dialogue between Christology and Pneumatology, the Church as a spiritual space, the synergy between divine grace and human free will, and the law of God inscribed on the heart through the work of the Holy Spirit. The findings indicate that Christology and Pneumatology constitute an inseparable unity within God’s saving work. Christ stands at the center of salvation through His incarnation, crucifixion, and resurrection, while the Holy Spirit actualizes this work within the Church through liturgy, sacraments, and the spiritual lives of the faithful. Salvation is understood as a process leading toward theosis, involving a synergy between divine grace and the human response through faith, repentance, and the practice of virtue. This research enriches the field of patristic studies while deepening the understanding of the relationship between Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the Church in the Christian life.
